Patna High Court Stenograper 2025 : Eligibility Criteria

• (i) Intermediate (12th Passed) from a recognised Board/ University; and
  (ii) Certificate of English Shorthand and English Typing from a recognised institution;
  and
  (iii) Diploma/ Certificate of at least six month’s Course in Computer Application from a
  recognised institution; and
  (iv) minimum speed of 80 words per minute in English shorthand; and
  (v) minimum speed of 40 words per minute in English Typing.

• Preferential Qualification :- A candidate –

• (i) who has served in the Territorial Army for a minimum period for two years, or
  (ii) who has obtained a ‘B’ certificate of the National Cadet Corps
  shall, other things being equal, be given preference in the matter of direct
  recruitment to the establishment at the time of interview.

• Instructions to upload photograph and Signature:-

(a) The photograph should be of passport Size and coloured with light coloured preferable white background

(b) Size of the image should be min. 50 kb and max. 80 kb.

(c) Image should be .jpg or .jpeg format.

(d) Scanner dpi should be 200 dpi.

(e) Uploaded Photograph and Signature once uploaded cannot be changed after final submission of Application Form.

(f) Dimension should be 3.5cm * 4.5cm

Patna High Court Stenographer 2025: Syllabus and Scheme of Examination

• Mode of Selection: Selection on the Basis of Written Test & Interview.

The written test is followed by:

• An English Shorthand-Computer Typing Test with a speed of 80 words per minute for 320 words. This needs to be transcribed in 4 minutes and 15 seconds, followed by 7 minutes for revision.

• An English Typing Test with a speed of 40 words per minute.

Minimum Qualifying Standard

To qualify, a candidate must meet the following minimum standards:

• Written Test: 40%

• English Shorthand-Typing: 85% accuracy

• English Typing: 90% accuracy

• Interview: 30%

The written test covers the following subjects:

1. English Language and Grammar (30 Marks)

• Spotting the error

• Fill in the blanks

• Synonyms/Homonyms, Antonyms

• Spellings/Detecting mis-spelt words

• Idioms & Phrases

• One word substitution

• Improvement of sentences

• Active/Passive Voice of verbs

• Shuffling of sentence parts

2. Basic Computer Science (20 Marks)

• History of computers

• Fundamentals of computers and terminologies

• Computer abbreviations

• Basics of hardware and software

• Keyboard shortcuts

• Operating system basics

• Basic functionalities of MS-Office (Word, Excel, and Powerpoint)

• Internet terms and services

• Networking and communication

• Security tools and viruses

• The question paper for the written test will be in English only.

• There will be no negative marking for incorrect answers in the written test.
